Writer answers: why a eunuch? #3 - Neemias

Raphaela Castro explains the historical context of Neemias’s role as a eunuch and hints at his sensitivity toward the romantic lives of others.

The subject of eunuchs always arouses curiosity, and Neemias is no exception. In A Rainha da Pérsia, we saw that Neemias had no choice when subjected to this condition.

But in an exclusive interview with Univer Vídeo, writer Raphaela Castro shared historical details about its importance in our protagonist’s life.

‘The Bible describes Neemias’s important position as cupbearer to King Artaxerxes I. Historically, to reach that role, he would have needed to be a eunuch in order to serve the royal family in its private life. Those who served the king indirectly did not need to be eunuchs.’

Neemias as a eunuch

Who could bear living forever without fulfillment in romantic life? This will be another challenge Neemias overcomes on his journey, for we do not see him questioning God about it — quite the opposite.

‘Although we cannot expect anything from Neemias’s romantic life, that does not mean he lacks the sensitivity to help or give a little nudge to the love lives of those around him. I will leave you with that other intriguing detail,’ the writer revealed.

We can expect many lessons in Faith from Neemias, premiering September 30 exclusively on Univer Vídeo.
