You discovered the beginning of Neemias’s story in A Rainha da Pérsia, but in September, in Neemias, you will follow the biblical details about the ruler who rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls in 52 days.

Produced by Seriella Productions, Neemias was written by Cristiane Cardoso and directed by Felipe Cunha, who also led Até Onde Ela Vai and Reis - A Consequência, available on Univer Vídeo.

Who was Nehemiah in the Bible?

Nehemiah is an important Old Testament figure, known primarily for rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls after the Babylonian exile.

A Jew by birth, during Israel’s exile he held a prominent position as cupbearer to King Artaxerxes I of Persia.

Neemias - Leandro Marcio

This position made him a trusted official at the Persian court, with direct access to the king, a remarkable achievement for a Jew at the time.

In A Rainha da Pérsia, you can also see the friendship between Neemias and Queen Ester, essential to their remaining in faith and trusting God during one of the Jewish people’s worst periods.

Nehemiah’s story is found in the Old Testament book bearing his name and is often studied for its lessons in leadership, faith, and perseverance.

When he heard about Jerusalem’s desolate condition, he was deeply saddened and prayed fervently to God, asking for guidance and favor to help the city.

Nehemiah is remembered as a man of action. He did not merely lament his native city’s condition, but took concrete steps to correct it.

After obtaining the king’s permission to return to Jerusalem, he assumed responsibility for leading the rebuilding of its walls, a task symbolizing the restoration of the Jewish people’s identity and security.

The book of Nehemiah reveals a leader combining political, strategic, and spiritual wisdom, which will also be shown in Neemias.

He mobilized and united Jerusalem’s people even amid internal and external opposition. He also implemented religious and social reforms to ensure the people returned to God’s ways.

His story is a powerful example of servant leadership, demonstrating that true leadership involves sacrifice, service, and unwavering commitment to His principles.

He is often cited as an example of how faith can guide and strengthen leaders in times of crisis.

Nehemiah and Jerusalem’s walls

The ruler’s best-known work, to be shown in Neemias, was rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls, an achievement that was not only physical but deeply spiritual and symbolic for the Jews.

The walls represented the city’s protection and dignity, and their destruction by the Babylonians had left it vulnerable and humiliated.

Restoring them was therefore a priority for the people who had returned from exile.

Nehemiah began the rebuilding project with a detailed nighttime inspection of the walls, telling no one his plans.

He did so to assess the scale of the work and develop a strategy without interference from enemies or opponents.

Neemias - Mario Bregieira

In Neemias, you will see that throughout the process, he faced various difficulties, including opposition from influential figures such as Sambalate, Tobias, and Gesém.

These adversaries tried to demoralize the Jewish people, spreading rumors and planning attacks to halt the work.

However, the series will show that a man with purpose remains firm in his mission. Nehemiah divided the workers into groups and assigned each to a specific section of the wall.

He also organized the city’s defense, arming workers so they could protect themselves while building. This dual approach of construction and defense was crucial to success.

Despite the enormous task and constant threat of attack, Jerusalem’s walls were rebuilt in an impressive 52 days.

The rebuilding had a profound impact on the Jews. It was not simply a physical restoration but also a spiritual and moral rebirth.

The walls meant more than protection: they symbolized the renewal of God’s covenant with His people and the recovery of their identity.

What will you learn in Neemias?

Nehemiah’s story is one of the Old Testament’s most inspiring, showing how faith, determination, and leadership can transform a nation.

Neemias will powerfully remind us that, even in adversity, we can accomplish great things when committed to a greater purpose and trusting God to guide us.

Actor Mario Bregieira, who plays the adult Neemias in A Rainha da Pérsia and will also portray him in Neemias, said on social media: ‘Which walls in your life do you need to rebuild?’

Throughout Neemias, you will see that, as the people rebuild Jerusalem’s walls, lessons can be drawn to help people today rebuild walls that have fallen in their lives.

Nehemiah did more than rebuild Jerusalem’s walls: he restored a people’s hope and faith.

His life and actions continue to serve as examples for leaders of every age, showing that true leadership serves, protects, and builds up the community.
