## **Why watch the film O Gênio e o Louco?**

*O Gênio e o Louco* is based on a fascinating true story exploring the creation of the **Oxford English Dictionary**, the most comprehensive dictionary of the English language.

Directed by Farhad Safinia, it stars Mel Gibson as Professor James Murray and Sean Penn as the troubled Dr. William Chester Minor.

The story follows Murray’s arduous journey as a self-taught man determined to compile every English word and its meaning.

He calls for volunteers to send word definitions. In this context, the eccentric Dr. Minor, a psychiatric hospital patient suffering from mental disorders, becomes one of the project’s most important figures.

Although the protagonists seem unlikely allies — an ambitious scholar and a mentally unstable man — their partnership is the film’s heart. Together, they battle personal and professional obstacles to accomplish a seemingly impossible task.

*O Gênio e o Louco* is a biographical drama exploring genius, sacrifice, and ethical dilemmas. Alongside its strong narrative, it highlights the impact of words and language on culture and human knowledge.

The film celebrates perseverance and the power of the human mind, even in the face of the greatest adversity.
