# Why was Saul portrayed as engaged in the series ‘Paulo, o Apóstolo’?

Widowed, divorced, engaged or a lifelong bachelor? Those are the options... Among many theories and some possibilities, there are facts. Biblically, the only thing we know is that the Apostle Paul did not marry (1 Corinthians 7:8).

But the Bible also gives a specific detail about him from when he still went by his birth name:  

> *"...And the witnesses laid down their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul." Acts 7:58.*

Here, Saul was already involved with the Sanhedrin—a group of 70 men and the high priest whose reputation, lineage and social standing linked them to an image of extreme respect and status. Knowing that a good marriage was one of the best ways to ensure this, the chances of Saul being among them while a lifelong bachelor or divorced… are almost zero.

Although his youth also places widowhood on the “unlikely list,” it does not completely rule it out. But adding the total absence of any mention of a wife or married life helps make the option chosen in ‘Paulo, o Apóstolo’ the most likely.
