After a brief pause, season 12 of ‘Reis’ will return soon, continuing the story of Israel’s kings and highlighting their mistakes and successes as examples for us.

Based on the Bible, the world’s most-read book, ‘Reis’ portrays the precise moment Israel’s people decided they no longer wanted to be the only nation without an earthly ruler.

### **‘We want a king.’**

Israel was governed directly by God, and the people only needed to continue recognizing Him as sovereign. However, unwilling to do so, they wanted to be like other nations.

God therefore charged Samuel, the prophet of the time, to go to Judah’s smallest tribe, Benjamin, where a family considered the least significant was home to Israel’s future king.

In this setting, during season two of ‘Reis’, a long succession of rulers began, culminating in season 12 with the establishment of the fifth king.

Unlike the beginning, Israel is now completely divided in season 12: Judah on one side and the other tribes on the other.

### **A divided Israel**

After misusing his wisdom and doing evil in God’s eyes, Salomão, Israel’s third king, provoked the Lord’s wrath. The punishment fell upon his son, Roboão.

With Salomão’s death, God gave much of the kingdom to another man, Jeroboão, but out of love for Davi allowed Salomão’s firstborn to reign over Judah.

Unfortunately, Roboão followed bad advice, imposing a heavier burden on the people than his father had, resulting in conflicts and rebellions.

Besides a kingdom in ruins, Roboão faced a divided home, where his wives Maaca and Maalate were constantly at odds, setting their children against one another.

Intensifying the family division, he chose Abias, the most sensitive and vulnerable son, as future heir to Judah’s throne over Jeús, the firstborn.

At the end of the previous season, we witnessed the tragic conclusion of Roboão’s life. Now, in season 12, a new cycle begins as Abias takes his father’s throne despite many conspiracies.

### **What will happen in season 12 of ‘Reis’?**

The official season 12 teaser has been released for fans. If you have not watched it yet, see below:

The official teaser already reveals some changes. In its first seconds, an enigmatic line suggests a confrontation from which only one will emerge alive, alongside bloodied hands.

It is unclear who is speaking or which confrontation is meant, but the previous season already showed conflict between Jeús and Abias, with Jeroboão continually plotting against Judah’s reign. So speculation can already begin.

Betrayal will be everywhere. In the trailer, a soldier warns Jeús that someone inside may be facilitating outside attacks. A mysterious figure dressed in white also listens to Jeús’s conversation with his mother.

The conflict will affect the Levites too, with great persecution expected for God’s true servants in season 12. Maaca, the new king of Judah’s mother, will be displeased with them and plan to eliminate them.

Besides new characters, the teaser makes clear that previously unseen figures will appear to shake up the current protagonists.
