On August 15, Univer Vídeo launches A Vida de Jó, a new 20-episode series telling the story of the man who lost everything except his faith.

## Who was Job in the Bible?

Job was an Old Testament figure known for faith that remained unshakable even in the face of suffering.

From the land of Uz and father of seven sons and three daughters, Job was very wealthy. In other words, a man of faith who had built a family and great wealth could easily be regarded as having a perfect life. And he did.

Today, he would be seen, respected and acclaimed as an exemplary man who respects God and His laws.

But A Vida de Jó shows that what he possessed was not more important than his relationship with God. What he built on earth did not hold the same value as what he had with God.

## What did the devil say to God about Job?

In Job's story, the Bible shows Satan going to God to speak about him, only to find God Himself speaking admiringly of His servant. A man God Himself described as blameless, upright, God-fearing and one who shunned evil.

“And the Lord said to Satan: Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and shuns evil.” Job 1:8

But on hearing those words, Satan challenged God. In his view, Job served Him only because of his blessings; therefore, if God took everything away, Job would blaspheme the Creator (see Job 1:9-11).

However, knowing His servant, God allowed Satan to touch everything Job possessed, but not his life.

“And the Lord said to Satan: Behold, all that he has is in your hand; only do not stretch out your hand against him. And Satan left the presence of the Lord.” Job 1:12

From that moment, Job's life turned upside down.

## What did Job lose?

We know God ordered the devil not to attack Job's life, but that everything else could be in his hands.

But what did that represent? According to the Bible, there was no other man richer than him in the east.

> “{...} so that this man was greater than all the people of the east.” Job 1:3

Thus, according to biblical accounts, Job lost everything except his life; all else was taken from him, including his health (see Job 2-7).

## Job's wife

Job's story also highlights his wife. Faced with all her husband's suffering, she did not support him, help him or offer a word of hope.

On the contrary, she became an example of how not to act when someone is going through difficulties.

Seeing Job's life go from bad to worse, she suggested that her husband blaspheme God.

“Then his wife said to him: Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die.” Job 2:9

Job promptly rejected his wife's suggestion, because he knew whom he trusted.

## What can we learn from Job's life?

Job greatly feared God, and God described him as someone who shunned evil. Yet through everything Job had to face, beyond his wisdom and faith, we can learn about perseverance, patience and a relationship with God.

Even in the face of enormous loss, the Bible reveals that he did not question God or rebel against Him. On the contrary:

> “In all this Job did not sin or attribute any fault to God.” Job 1:22.

Job became an example of trust in God and a reference for having faith both to possess and to lose.

## The A Vida de Jó series

A Vida de Jó premieres August 15 to show Job's life in rich detail. To understand him deeply, the narrative will portray his youth in a previously unseen way.

How did he develop his faith? Why did his wife suggest he curse God? Who were his ancestors? What was Job's difficult period like?

The series will answer these questions and show how people can take inspiration from this man who was not perfect, but became an example of perseverance, trust and how to deal with suffering—and especially what comes after it. A Vida de Jó brings to light silent conflicts, insecurities masked by familiar behaviors and what reactions to life's twists can reveal.

During the “DR entre Tiago e Suzana” episode of the Plot Delas podcast, writer Cristiane Cardoso emphasized the importance of telling Job's life from his youth.

Although this stage involves poetic license, Cristiane stressed that it is essential to tell the story by taking a few steps back.

“Thinking about what Job would be like, a person certain of whom he believes in, what would he be like as a young man? Certainly different from the others,” the writer said.

However, despite the author's poetic license, Cristiane reiterated that there is biblical evidence supporting the trajectory shown in A Vida de Jó.

## When does A Vida de Jó premiere?

A Vida de Jó premieres exclusively on Univer Vídeo on August 15. Its 20 episodes will reveal Job's story and what human beings need to learn from him.
