On May 28, Univer Vídeo launches the series Paulo, o Apóstolo. This brand-new, 50-episode series will tell the epic journey of the biblical Apostle Paul.

### **Who was Paul in the Bible?**

Paul the Apostle was a great and important figure in the Bible. The author of most of the books of the New Testament — 13, to be more specific — the Apostle Paul has a story of relentless persecution, strong moral convictions and, above all, redemption.

The Apostle Paul was known as Saul of Tarsus, a name reflecting his origins: he was born in Tarsus, in Cilicia, which is now in Turkey.

A Jew from the tribe of Benjamin, Saul was a Roman citizen and an extremely zealous Pharisee.

However, he initially stood out as a persecutor of Christians, believing he was defending the Jewish faith against what he considered heresy.

The Bible itself highlights Saul's hostility toward the Gospel.

> “Saul, for his part, was devastating the church. Going from house to house, he dragged men and women away and put them in prison.” Acts 8:3

### **How did the Apostle Paul's conversion happen?**

Saul's life changed completely after a transformative experience on the road to Damascus. While traveling to arrest Christians, Saul was startled by a light from heaven that questioned him:

> “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” Acts 9:4

After this moment, Saul became Paul, the man who would be known as one of Christ's greatest apostles.

From then on, the Apostle Paul devoted his life to spreading Christ's message, especially among the Gentiles (non-Jews).

Paul undertook several missionary journeys, founding churches throughout the Roman Empire, and endured persecution, imprisonment and shipwrecks because of his faith.

Thus, from a fierce persecutor, Paul the Apostle became a hugely important figure in the New Testament, with letters addressing sensitive subjects that are, above all, necessary and fundamental to the Christian faith.

### **Films and series about the Apostle Paul**

Paul the Apostle's important role in Christianity has also inspired major cinematic works.

Countless feature films tell the story of one of the Bible's principal apostles.
